Karachi (National Times) Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has hinted at a possible march from Karachi to Islamabad to press the party’s demand for the creation of new administrative units and an empowered local government system.Addressing an MQM-P rally held in Karachi in support of new administrative units across Sindh and the country, Siddiqui said Karachi had made its decision and that his party’s workers had once again created history.“Karachi has made its decision today, and we have taken our Karachi back,” he said, adding that when the caravan travelled from Karachi to Islamabad, it would become the destiny of Pakistan.Siddiqui said the party’s demand was for a system based on participatory and representative democracy.Speaking at the rally, MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar said the people of Karachi had voted for the transfer of powers to local governments. He said a new era of partnership had begun and that 18 years of patience had finally found expression on the streets.Sattar said people from various parts of interior Sindh had also come out, urging voters to move away from hereditary politics. He claimed that the mayors of Sukkur, Mirpur Khas and Nawabshah would belong to his party.
