Contempt of court petition filed in IHC against arrest of Imran Riaz

ISLAMABAD (National Times) – Islamabad High Court has sought reply from IG Islamabad at 10:00am today (Wednesday) on contempt of court petition filed against police after journalist Imran Riaz Khan’s arrest near Attock on Tuesday night, Dunya News reported.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Athar Minallah has summoned the concerned officer of IG Islamabad at 10:00am and asked the IG Islamabad to explain why the court order was violated.

According to sources, the petition has been filed by Imran Riaz’s lawyer, stating that Imran Riaz was arrested despite clear orders of the Islamabad High Court. The court had directed the authorities concerned across the country not to arrest him.

Sources said that the petitioner has taken a stand that contempt of court action should be taken against the violators of court order. Sources said that IG Islamabad, IG Punjab and DC Islamabad have been made parties in the petition.

It may be mentioned here that Attock police had arrested journalist Imran Riaz Khan on Tuesday night. Police said that an FIR has been registered against Imran Riaz in Attock, Punjab.
