Lahore (National Times) The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province in view of law and order concerns and potential security threats.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, gatherings of five or more people have been prohibited at public places, roads, highways and open spaces. The restrictions also cover rallies, public meetings, processions, sit-ins and demonstrations.
The notification said law enforcement and intelligence agencies had reported possible terrorist threats during public gatherings across Punjab.
However, wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, burials and religious worship at mosques and churches have been exempted from the restrictions.
Official duties performed by government and semi-government institutions, as well as proceedings of courts, will also remain exempt from the restrictions.
