Unregistered vehicles queued after mandatory imposition of M-tag on motorway

LAHORE (National Times) – After the mandatory registration of M-tag for vehicles on the motorway, queues of unregistered vehicles which do not possess M-tag started forming as traffic police did not let the cars through.

According to reports, citizens are facing severe difficulties to get M-tag. Motorway police launched crack down on vehicles without M-tags preventing vehicles without M-tags from entering the motorway.

Queues have formed at the M-tag booths making it a hassle for those wanting to arrive at their destinations on time.

While talking to the media, Passengers said that there are long queues wherever they go, all the booths of Lahore-Islamabad Motorway are full of rush and it takes 2 to 3 hours to apply for an M-tag.

Passengers said, “Many people are in emergency but are not allowed to pass without M-tag.”

However, Motorway authorities said that the main purpose of the change is to reduce the time wasted in several kilometer long queues at the toll plazas. It will also help digitize the whole process and make it a lot more smoother.

M-tag requirements

Motorway police have made M-tags mandatory at toll plazas to reduce congestion. The status of the car sticker can also be checked.

It should be noted that tag can be obtained from M-tag booth at any toll plaza on the motorway. In order to get M-tag, national identity card, driving license and vehicle registration must be shown at the toll plaza.

Card Recharge

You can get different scratch cards, Rs. 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 5000, from entry and exit points and service areas along the motorway.

To recharge, send the card number M-Tag ID to 9909.

Jazz Cash

You can either visit a nearby Jazz Cash franchise or simply use Jazz Cash mobile wallet to recharge your account.

Motorways Website

You can also recharge through FWO Smart Motorways official website. It supports Jazz Cash, Visa and Mastercard payments.

Smart Motorways Application

There are multiple options for recharge in the Smart Motorway Application. You can download the application for Android phones here.

M2 Drive-Through Centers

You can also get your M-Tag IDs recharged at drive-through centers at M-2.

Credit/Debit Cards

Debit and credit cards are also accepted for M-Tag recharge.
