ISLAMABAD(National Times): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday brushed aside the news items broadcast/published in a section of media alleging that the commission was not playing its role in banning Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
A spokesman of the commission quoting articles 17 (2) of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and Section 212 of the Election Act, said, the federal government is authorize to send the reference to the Supreme Court within 15 days of receiving the information that a political party is harmful to the sovereignty or integrity of the country or involve in terrorism.
The political party will be dissolved immediately after favourable ruling of the Supreme Court.
The Election Commission will then, by gazette notification, disqualify the members of the political party from becoming members of the Majlis-e-Shura, Provincial Assembly or Local Government.
