Carpet manufacturers members to call on govt functionaries

Lahore(National Times): A delegation of Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association
will soon call on senior officials of government to draw attention towards granting relief on
Sales and income tax on raw material imported into Pakistan from Torkham Border to give boost
to the local carpet industry.

In a statement issued here today, Senior vice chairman of the Association Riaz Ahmed said that
effective arrangements have been made to contact with the relevant authorities in the
government.
He recalled that exporting commodities already enoy exemption from Sales Tax exported
through after imposing Value Added Taxes locally Torkhan borders already enjoy exemption
from Sales Tax.

Riaz Ahmed further pointed out that due to imposing of different taxes cost of production has
soared very high as a result Pakistan is losing hand-market Carpet business in the international
market due to vast competition.
He further assured Pakistan can gain cent percent increase in the export of hand-made carpets of
Pakistan besides increasing huge foreign exchange for the country.

Moreover, he pointed that if our proposals are implemented Pakistan would be able to secure jobs
for more than 0.5 million skilled workers attached with the hand-made carpet industry of
Pakistan. He further pointed out it is the high time government should give positive reaction to
our proposals to enhance exports besides promoting job opportunities in the community.

In the end he said efforts are stepped up to have meetings with the high officials of the
government including Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen and Advisor to Trade and
Commerce Razzak Daud that aims to enhance export with the collaboration of the government,
