Some political parties playing politics over Gul Plaza Tragedy: Sharjeel

KARACHI(National Times)- Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday said that some political parties are politicizing the Gul Plaza tragedy, Dunya News reported. Sharjeel Memon stated that the Sindh government or the Pakistan People’s Party had no role in the construction or approval of Gul Plaza. He said all decisions were the responsibility of the municipal governments and the relevant institutions at the time. He added that approval for the construction of Gul Plaza was granted in 1983 when Abdul Sattar Afghani was the mayor. The land lease was renewed in 1991, and the lease documents bear the signatures of Farooq Sattar in his capacity as mayor. The provincial minister further said that irregularities related to Gul Plaza were formally regularised in 2003, when Naimatullah Khan was the mayor of Karachi. He emphasized that all these actions were taken before the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
