Survey Across SCO Countries Shows Rising Confidence in Chinese Modernization

Islamabad (National Times) A public opinion survey conducted across five SCO member countries shows rising confidence in Chinese modernization as a viable and learnable development pathway for the wider region.
The survey, carried out by the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies, under the Project of ACCWS Knowledge Sharing, captures public perceptions in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The findings indicate strong regional resonance with China’s development approach, particularly its emphasis on people-centered growth, economic inclusiveness, technological advancement, and respect for national conditions.
Across the five countries surveyed, respondents increasingly view Chinese modernization not as a rigid or one-size-fits-all model, but as a source of practical experience and governance insights that can be adapted to local realities.
In the economic sphere, a majority of respondents expressed positive views toward trade and investment cooperation with China, citing tangible benefits such as employment opportunities, infrastructure development, and improvements in local income levels.
Major connectivity and infrastructure initiatives were widely perceived as strengthening regional integration, improving logistics, and supporting long-term economic resilience.
Regarding development philosophy, more than 60 percent of respondents believe Chinese modernization holds clear reference value for their own national development paths.
Participants acknowledged how China balances growth with social welfare, maintains cultural identity, and prioritizes green and sustainable development. This understanding provides a solid foundation for future policy dialogue, research collaboration, and knowledge exchange within the SCO framework.
The survey also reflects strong public confidence in China-led multilateral cooperation mechanisms. Awareness of the SCO and its guiding principles, known as “the Shanghai Spirit”, was moderate. Many respondents view the SCO as an effective mechanism for enhancing regional voices in global governance and supporting multilateral solutions to shared challenges.
Technological cooperation emerged as another area of optimism. China’s achievements in fields such as artificial intelligence, 5G communications, high-speed rail, and new energy technologies are widely recognized by the public.
Overall, the survey points to deepening public understanding of Chinese modernization. China is increasingly perceived as a constructive partner in shared modernization and common prosperity across the region.
