KARACHI (National Times) The Sindh Assembly has unanimously approved a resolution extending the powers of the Pakistan Rangers in the province for another year.

Provincial Law Minister Zia Lanjar moved the resolution in the assembly. It stated that the Rangers, in coordination with police and other law enforcement agencies, had carried out effective operations against crime, resulting in a significant decline in targeted killings, street crime and other serious offences.

The resolution maintained that the continued deployment of the Rangers was necessary to maintain law and order and protect the lives and property of citizens. It called for a further one-year extension under Article 147 of the Constitution.

The Sindh Assembly also unanimously passed a resolution paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The House further approved amendment bills concerning Fatimiyah International University, Iqra University and the Benazir Bhutto Human Research Board.
