{"id":84089,"date":"2024-06-22T00:07:17","date_gmt":"2024-06-22T00:07:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=84089"},"modified":"2024-06-22T00:07:17","modified_gmt":"2024-06-22T00:07:17","slug":"israel-may-have-violated-laws-of-war-in-gaza-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2024\/84089\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel may have violated laws of war in Gaza: UN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gaza (National Times) ISRAELI forces may have repeatedly violated the laws of war and failed to distinguish between civilians and fighters in the Gaza conflict, the UN human rights office said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Separately, the head of a UN inquiry accused the Israeli military of carrying out the \u201cextermination\u201d of Palestinians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a report on six Israeli attacks that caused many casualties and destroyed civilian infrastructure, the UN human rights office (OHCHR) said Israeli forces \u201cmay have systematically violated the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precautions in attack\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe requirement to select means and methods of warfare that avoid or at the very least minimise to every extent civilian harm appears to have been consistently violated in Israel\u2019s bombing campaign,\u201d UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said.<br>In a separate meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the head of a UN Commission of Inquiry, Navi Pillay, said Israel was responsible for the most serious abuses under international law known as \u201ccrimes against humanity\u201d.
