The ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is anticipated to win the general elections for the historic third time consecutively, CNN reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indian PM Modi\u2019s Islamophobic statements attracted condemnation from members of the opposition and Muslim leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the hate-infused statement, Modi alleged that the opposition party, the Indian National Congress, would distribute the country\u2019s wealth among Muslims. He dubbed Muslims as \u201cinfiltrators\u201d and \u201cthose who have more children\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen they (INC) were in power, they said Muslims have first right over resources. They will gather all your wealth and distribute it among those who have more children. They will distribute among infiltrators,\u201d the PM said amid applause from the supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Modi asked his supporters if they would accept that their hard-earned money was given to the \u201cinfiltrators\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opposition party has requested India\u2019s election commission to probe if Modi\u2019s remarks violated its code of conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per the Election Commission of India (ECI)\u2019s rules, an appeal for a vote should not be made based on caste and communal sentiments as it \u201cmay aggravate differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of the Muslim community lambasted the PM for his remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muslim journalist Rana Ayyub wrote on the social media platform, X: \u201cThis is not a dogwhistle, this is a targeted, direct, brazen hate speech against a community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi said: \u201cModi today called Muslims infiltrators and people with many children. Since 2002 till this day, the only Modi guarantee has been to abuse Muslims and get votes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge described the statements as \u201chate speech\u201d and \u201ca well thought out ploy to divert attention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
