{"id":55099,"date":"2023-01-21T06:49:36","date_gmt":"2023-01-21T06:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=55099"},"modified":"2023-01-21T14:42:05","modified_gmt":"2023-01-21T14:42:05","slug":"fia-finds-suleman-shehbaz-innocent-in-money-laundering-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2023\/55099\/","title":{"rendered":"FIA finds Suleman Shehbaz innocent in money laundering case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE (National Times) \u2013 The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday informed a special court in Lahore that it had found no evidence against Suleman Shehbaz about money laundering charges amounting to Rs16 billion in the sugar scam case.<\/p>\n<p>The FIA investigators submitted a challan in the special court central during the hearing of a bail plea filed by the son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the case.<\/p>\n<p>As per the challan, the suspects \u2013 Suleman and Tahir Naqbi, were not involved in receiving kickbacks and had no link with the case, the judge remarked.<\/p>\n<p>After reviewing the challan, the judge asked the suspects if they wanted to withdraw their bail petitions. To which, they took back the pleas for pre-arrest bail in the money laundering case.<\/p>\n<p>Later, the court adjourned the hearing till Feb 4.<\/p>\n<p>The development comes days after Suleman Shehbaz appeared before an investigation team in the FIR 39\/2020 related to the Ramzan Sugar Mills and benami accounts to submit his reply.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the special court had acquitted PM Shehbaz and his elder son, Hamza Shehbaz, in this case registered against them in Nov 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Read More: Salman Shehbaz returns to Pakistan after four years<br \/>\nThe special central court declared Suleman Shehbaz a perpetual proclaimed criminal in July last due to his continued absence from court proceedings.However, he secured a bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in Dec 2022 and reached back to Pakistan after ending his a four-year self-exile.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE (National Times) \u2013 The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday informed a special court in Lahore that it had found no evidence against Suleman Shehbaz about money laundering charges amounting to Rs16 billion in the sugar scam case.
