{"id":51397,"date":"2022-12-10T07:12:07","date_gmt":"2022-12-10T07:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=51397"},"modified":"2022-12-10T07:12:07","modified_gmt":"2022-12-10T07:12:07","slug":"ericsson-and-apple-end-patent-related-legal-row-with-licence-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2022\/51397\/","title":{"rendered":"Ericsson and Apple end patent-related legal row with licence deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>STOCKHOLM (National Times) &#8211; Ericsson (ERICb.ST) said on Friday it had struck a global patent licence agreement with Apple (AAPL.O), ending a row over royalty payments for the use of 5G wireless patents in iPhones.<\/p>\n<p>The Swedish telecoms equipment maker said the multi-year deal included global cross-licences for patented cellular standard-essential technologies, and granted certain other patent rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe settlement ends all ongoing patent-related legal disputes between the parties,\u201d it said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The deal comes after Ericsson in January filed a second set of patent infringement lawsuits against the U.S. maker of iPhones.<\/p>\n<p>Both companies had already sued each other in the United States as negotiations failed over the renewal of a seven-year licensing contract for telecoms patents first struck in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Ericsson sued first in October 2021, claiming that Apple was trying to improperly cut down the royalty rates. The iPhone maker then filed a lawsuit in December 2021, accusing the Swedish company of using \u201cstrong-arm tactics\u201d to renew patents.<\/p>\n<p>Ericsson on Friday forecast fourth-quarter intellectual property rights (IPR) licensing revenues of 5.5 billion-5.0 billion Swedish crowns ($530.3 million-$578.5 million) including the effects of the settlement, and including ongoing IPR business with all other licensees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>STOCKHOLM (National Times) &#8211; Ericsson (ERICb.ST) said on Friday it had struck a global patent licence agreement with Apple (AAPL.O), ending a row over royalty payments for the use of 5G wireless patents in iPhones.
