{"id":136054,"date":"2026-11-07T21:47:24","date_gmt":"2026-11-07T16:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=136054"},"modified":"2026-11-07T21:47:25","modified_gmt":"2026-11-07T16:47:25","slug":"india-says-landed-heavy-lift-military-aircraft-at-highest-altitude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/136054\/","title":{"rendered":"India says landed heavy-lift military aircraft at highest altitude"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Web Desk(National Times)- The Indian Air Force said on Saturday it had successfully landed a heavy-lift transport aircraft at the highest altitude anywhere in the world in remote Ladakh bordering China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The IL-76MD, a four-engine Russian-origin turbofan military aircraft also known as Ganjraj, landed at an airfield at 4,154 metres above sea level, close to the frontier with China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAn Indian Air Force IL-76MD has scripted history with a successful landing at Nyoma, marking the highest-altitude landing ever achieved by the aircraft anywhere in the world,\u201d the IAF said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Images posted by the IAF on social media showed the aircraft landing and taking off from the runway surrounded by barren mountains in the cold desert area, where temperatures can plummet to minus 20\u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The military airfield at Nyoma was completed last year as part of a push for military infrastructure in the icy region following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1564042\">border clash<\/a> in 2020 that killed 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India and China compete fiercely for influence in South Asia.
