{"id":135825,"date":"2026-11-03T22:05:52","date_gmt":"2026-11-03T17:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=135825"},"modified":"2026-11-03T22:05:57","modified_gmt":"2026-11-03T17:05:57","slug":"we-made-a-deal-months-ago-trump-says-us-will-stop-4-billion-funding-to-israel-at-end-of-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/135825\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;We made a deal months ago&#8217;: Trump says US will stop $4 billion funding to Israel at end of 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Washington(National Times)- US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he made a deal with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington would stop $4 billion in funding to Israel after the end of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking to <em>Fox News<\/em>\u2019 \u2018Fox and Friends\u2019, Trump said Israel no longer needed the funding and that some Democrats and left-wing politicians were using the US financial support to Israel as a talking point to criticise Republicans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow, as far as paying Israel, Bibi Netanyahu and I have made a deal that we give Israel $4bn a year, and we made a deal months ago that we\u2019re stopping,\u201d Trump told the broadcaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve already agreed that by the end of this year we won\u2019t be paying Israel. Now we\u2019ll help Israel if they need it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was no immediate comment from Netanyahu\u2019s office on Trump\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was not immediately clear which exact funding Trump meant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A memorandum of understanding that provides $3.8bn in annual US military aid to Israel is approaching its expiration date in 2028, and conversations have been under way on how Washington\u2019s assistance to Israel would evolve beyond that date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey can buy whatever they want. They can buy whatever they want. So can Europe. We make the greatest weapons in the world,\u201d Trump added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Netanyahu said in a May interview with <em>CBS<\/em> that he hoped to wean Israel off US military support within a decade. In a June letter to a US congressman, he wrote that the time had come for Israel \u201cto move from aid recipient to partner\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">US public support for Israel has fallen since the Gaza war began in 2023, particularly among Democrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A June Quinnipiac University poll found 48 per cent of voters and 66pc of Democrats believe the United States is too supportive of Israel, up from 16pc and 20pc when the question was first asked in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Support for Israel among Democratic voters has plummeted, candidates critical of Israel are winning Democratic primaries, and even moderate lawmakers are increasingly willing to challenge decades of US support for Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe left uses the $4bn payment that everybody knows about \u2014 well, it\u2019s no secret \u2014 as a signal of unfairness, and we can\u2019t allow that to happen,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were giving them $4bn, we are, but it gets cut off at the end of the year. Why?
