{"id":134923,"date":"2026-10-16T08:15:22","date_gmt":"2026-10-16T03:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=134923"},"modified":"2026-10-16T08:15:23","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T03:15:23","slug":"trump-banking-on-swift-end-of-iran-war-to-bring-down-fuel-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/134923\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump banking on \u2018swift end\u2019 of Iran war to bring down fuel prices"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON(National Times)-  US President Donald Trump once again predicted a swift end to the war with Iran, and a sharp drop in oil prices once the conflict concludes, even as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that military action cannot force them into submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Iran war will end very soon \u2026 Soon, as they want it to end,\u201d Trump told reporters in Montana. \u201cThey\u2019ll never have a nuclear weapon, and oil prices will drop like a rock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <em>Anadolu Agency<\/em>, Trump also expressed uncertainty over which Ira\u00adnian officials the US was negotiating with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey don\u2019t have a navy. They don\u2019t have an air force. Their army is decimated. Their leaders are gone,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI should have probably left their leaders because I don\u2019t know who the hell we\u2019re negotiating with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIran was the bully of the Middle East,\u201d he said, adding that the country was no longer as powerful as it had been.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump also claimed that US strikes had destroyed Iran\u2019s naval fleet and rendered its military aircraft unusable. He said Iran had 159 ships and asserted that none remained operational, while also claiming that its fighter jets had been destroyed on the country\u2019s runways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2018Iran won\u2019t submit to force\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile in Tehran, President Pezeshkian warned that military action cannot force a country into submission, adding that his country \u201cmust find a way to strengthen national cohesion and unity\u201d, <em>Al Jazeera<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said that the country was facing its most intense blockade since the 1979 Revolution, accusing the United States of seeking to provoke public protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOver the 48 years since the Revolution, we have never faced such intense blockade, war and difficulties as we are facing now,\u201d Pezeshkian said in a speech broadcast by state television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He accused Washington of seeking to make life difficult for Iranians to fuel public anger and trigger unrest. Pezeshkian said the US was focusing its efforts on making \u201cthe people become upset and face difficulties, and then for social protests to emerge so that they can achieve their sinister objectives\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2018Mother Of All Bombs\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the US is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2037331\">considering<\/a> using the GBU-43\/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb \u2014 better known by its nickname, the \u201cMother Of All Bombs\u201d \u2014 against Iran if Trump decides to renew combat in the deadlocked war, <em>CNN<\/em> reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The military is planning for the potential use of the weapon to target Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear sites, according to the news outlet, which quoted officials familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe MOAB is a massive information operation type weapon that is great for huge area clearance but not much else,\u201d a source familiar with the plans told CNN. \u201cIt is definitely not designed as a deep penetration warhead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump is trying to boost his low approval ratings ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2035723\">November\u2019s midterm elections<\/a>, with polls showing the unpopular war in Iran and the fuel and other price rises it has caused are hurting his Republican Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have been at an impasse since the summer, and Washington has in recent weeks dialled back military operations in favour of economic pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, officials have raised doubts over the efficacy of the bomb if deployed, particularly its ability to destroy suspected underground nuclear sites in Iran, as well as concerns over possible civilian casualties from such a huge weapon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON(National Times)- US President Donald Trump once again predicted a swift end to the war with Iran, and a sharp drop in oil prices once the conflict concludes, even as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that military action cannot force them into submission. \u201cThe Iran war will end very soon \u2026 Soon, as they want [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":134924,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-134923","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest_news","entry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.0 -
