{"id":134828,"date":"2026-10-14T21:40:17","date_gmt":"2026-10-14T16:40:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=134828"},"modified":"2026-10-14T21:40:20","modified_gmt":"2026-10-14T16:40:20","slug":"pemra-directs-tv-channels-to-refrain-from-airing-unpleasant-incidents-including-terror-attacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/134828\/","title":{"rendered":"Pemra directs TV channels to refrain from airing &#8216;unpleasant incidents&#8217;, including terror attacks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISLAMABAD(National Times)- The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has directed all satellite television channels to refrain from the broadcast, re-broadcast and live coverage of any \u201cunfortunate\/unpleasant incident such as explosion, blast, firing, terrorist attack etc.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an order dated Oct 13, a copy of which is available with Dawn, the media regulator said satellite television channels \u201cmust broadcast only such verified information, warranted by the department\/law enforcement agency concerned\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Television channels were further instructed to \u201ceffectively use time delay mechanism\u201d and ensure that an independent editorial board be constituted in compliance with the provisions of Pemra laws and the Supreme Court judgement in 2018 suo motu case, as well as the Islamabad High Court\u2019s order in a 2022 case, \u201cwith regard to the proper utilisation of prescribed procedure regarding delay mechanism\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pemra warned that legal action would be taken under Sections 29-A, 30 and 33 of the Pemra Ordinance 2002 in case of any violation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The order also referred to a similar directive issued by Pemra in February 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development comes after the Centre imposed governor\u2019s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, citing the provincial government\u2019s \u201cdeliberate disengagement\u201d from the fight against terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move followed weeks of political tensions between the Centre and the PTI after the latter announced a long march to Islamabad to demand the release of its jailed founder, Imran Khan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Tuesday, a protest by PTI workers in KP\u2019s Bara tehsil against the imposition of emergency and governor\u2019s rule turned violent when the participants torched government buildings and clashed with riot police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD(National Times)- The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has directed all satellite television channels to refrain from the broadcast, re-broadcast and live coverage of any \u201cunfortunate\/unpleasant incident such as explosion, blast, firing, terrorist attack etc.\u201d In an order dated Oct 13, a copy of which is available with Dawn, the media regulator said satellite [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":134829,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-134828","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest_news","entry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.0 -
