{"id":133596,"date":"2026-09-22T21:35:30","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T16:35:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=133596"},"modified":"2026-09-22T21:35:32","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T16:35:32","slug":"jailed-imran-again-denied-family-meeting-this-time-with-his-cousin-as-sisters-remain-in-detention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/133596\/","title":{"rendered":"Jailed Imran again denied family meeting \u2014 this time with his cousin as sisters remain in detention"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISLAMABAD(National Times)-  Ex-prime minister Imran Khan\u2019s cousin, Qasim Zaman, reached Rawalpindi\u2019s Adiala jail on Tuesday but was not allowed a meeting with the PTI founder, Awais Younas Chaudhry, a PTI lawyer told <em>Dawn<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe reached there at around 2pm and waited until after 4pm, but a meeting was not allowed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imran has been in prison since 2023. The IHC has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1950777\/adiala-jail-superintendent-directed-to-implement-earlier-ihc-order-allowing-imran-twice-a-week-meetings\"><u>allowed<\/u><\/a> Imran twice-a-week meetings \u2014 on Tuesdays and Thursdays \u2014 with his family, lawyers and other associates. Despite the order, the PTI founder has been restricted from meeting visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Usually, Imran\u2019s sisters \u2014 Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi \u2014 would be the ones to reach Adiala every week in the hopes to meet him. But they have now been detained by the authorities under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960 ahead of the PTI\u2019s Sept 27 protest call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chaudhry, who submits lists of party leaders and lawyers to the jail administration for the weekly meetings, said in response to a question by <em>Dawn<\/em> that had no one from Imran\u2019s family had reached Adiala, the jail administration would have argued before the IHC that the meeting did not take place because nobody came. They would have argued that otherwise, a meeting would have been allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, he said the PTI had decided that with Imran\u2019s sisters detained, some other family members would reach Adiala on Tuesday to show IHC that its orders were not being implemented. However, he had not shared the names of those family members, fearing their arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had also submitted a list of lawyers for a meeting with Imran. The list comprised PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, Niazullah Niazi, Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, Raja Yasir and Malik Atif Bashir Awan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chaudhry said these lawyers also reached the Adiala jail on Tuesday and informed authorities of their arrival, but, despite hours of waiting, they had to return without a meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Aug 18, the Supreme Court (SC) also directed the authorities to allow Imran meetings with his family as it ordered his medical checkup at Islamabad\u2019s Shifa International Hospital, a private facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the SC\u2019s interim order, one of Imran\u2019s sisters, Noreen, was allowed two consecutive meetings with him.
