He was 84.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Khalid\u2019s son, the funeral will be held in Faisalabad on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Born on Dec 28, 1941 in Jhelum, Khalid was part of some of Pakistan\u2019s most successful hockey squads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was a member of the Pakistan team that won silver medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The right-out player also represented the national side at the 1966 Asian Games, where Pakistan secured another silver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two years later, Khalid was part of the national team that clinched gold medal at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, and was also a member of the squad that won gold at the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khalid served as secretary of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and acted as the national team manager during his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The International Hockey Federation, Asian Hockey Federation and Pakistan\u2019s hockey fraternity, including former Olympians, expressed their deep sorrow over Khalid\u2019s demise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE(National Times)- Former Pakistan hockey captain Khalid Mahmood passed away on Thursday after prolonged illness.
