{"id":131816,"date":"2026-08-24T18:56:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T13:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=131816"},"modified":"2026-08-24T18:56:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T13:56:21","slug":"cdf-munir-meets-iranian-interior-minister-in-tehran-ispr-says-visit-part-of-pakistans-efforts-for-regional-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/131816\/","title":{"rendered":"CDF Munir meets Iranian interior minister in Tehran; ISPR says visit part of Pakistan&#8217;s efforts for regional peace"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TEHRAN(National Times)- Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Tehran on Monday, state media in Pakistan reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CDF and interior minister reached Tehran on Monday, Iranian media&nbsp;<a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FarsNews_Agency\/status\/2091812590858928422?s=20\">reported<\/a>, after Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) described the visit \u201cas part of Pakistan\u2019s efforts to promote regional peace and stability\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said that the visit undertaken by CDF Munir and Naqvi was taking place as bilateral ties between Islamabad and Tehran \u201creach one of their strongest stages\u201d, state broadcaster&nbsp;<em>IRIB<\/em>&nbsp;reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Baqaei added that the Pakistani delegation\u2019s visit was unrelated to the visit of Oman\u2019s foreign minister, who is expected to arrive today. He noted that \u201cboth visits will address regional security issues\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISPR said CDF Munir will \u201cfocus on promoting efforts towards peaceful, lasting and comprehensive resolution of the conflict in the Middle East\u201d during the visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei on Sunday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2024831\/cdf-munir-in-fresh-push-for-diplomatic-end-to-us-iran-war\">said<\/a>&nbsp;CDF Munir was expected to travel to Tehran to continue efforts to bring peace and security to the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said CDF Munir would lead an official delegation and the \u201cvisit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan and to continue Pakis\u00adtan\u2019s good offices in support of peace and security in the region\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the visit, CDF Munir would meet and hold talks with senior officials Iran, Baqaei added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United States and Israel triggered the Middle East war with a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1976390\">massive wave of strikes<\/a>&nbsp;against Iran on February 28, triggering Iranian retaliation across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An April 8&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1989782\">ceasefire&nbsp;<\/a>ended nearly 40 days of intense bombardment, but control over the Strait of Hormuz soon emerged as a key flashpoint in the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran has controlled the vital energy conduit since the war began. Reopening the strait, vital for global oil and gas supplies, has become a US priority, but Tehran insists the waterway will remain closed until Washington lifts its naval blockade on Iranian ports, removes oil sanctions and unfreezes Iranian assets abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pakistan has played a key role in efforts to halt war between Iran and the United States,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2016487\">brokering&nbsp;<\/a>a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in June, but peace negotiations currently appear stalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, US President Donald Trump&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2024083\">announced&nbsp;<\/a>that Washington would ramp up economic pressure on Iran \u201con an unprecedented scale\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Washington has urged other governments, including Beijing, to join efforts to further isolate Iran\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US is expected to announce details related to the planned sanctions on Mondau, which \u200bUS officials have \u200bsaid would be \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2024240\"><u>the \u2060toughest sanctions in history<\/u><\/a>\u201d on Iran.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TEHRAN(National Times)- Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Tehran on Monday, state media in Pakistan reported.
