{"id":131518,"date":"2026-08-19T19:39:35","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T14:39:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=131518"},"modified":"2026-08-19T19:39:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T14:39:35","slug":"syrian-fm-shaibani-due-to-visit-pakistan-today-fo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/131518\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian FM Shaibani due to visit Pakistan today: FO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISLAMABAD(National Times)- Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani is due to visit Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The visit comes as Syria\u2019s transitional leadership pursues regional and international engagement following the overthrow of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2022273\"><u>Bashar al-Assad in 2024.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the statement, Shaibani would undertake the visit from August 19-20 and will be accompanied by a high-level delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDuring the visit, the two sides will hold in-depth discussions across the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, review avenues for further enhancing bilateral cooperation, and exchange views on regional and international developments,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FO noted that the visit marks an important step towards further enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between Pakistan and Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2023797\/syrian-fm-asaad-al-shaibani-due-in-islamabad-today\">visit<\/a>&nbsp;will be the first by a Syrian foreign minister since Walid al-Mouallem travelled to Pakistan in May 2007 and the first since the change of government in Damascus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier today, the FO strongly condemned an \u201cunprovoked\u201d attack carried out by Israel on an airbase in Syria, saying such acts had the potential to \u201cfurther undermine regional peace and stability\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Syria\u2019s state-run&nbsp;<em>Ekhbariya<\/em>&nbsp;television, citing a military source,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2023813\"><u>said&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>on Tuesday that Israel carried out eight airstrikes on the runway and storage facilities at the Abu al-Duhur base near Aleppo in northwest Syria.
