{"id":131494,"date":"2026-08-19T10:52:36","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T05:52:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=131494"},"modified":"2026-08-19T10:52:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T05:52:47","slug":"pakistan-extends-airspace-ban-on-indian-aircraft-until-sept-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/131494\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian aircraft until Sept 24"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISLAMABAD(National Times)- Pakistan has extended its airspace ban on Indian aircraft for until Sep 24, according to a Notice to Airmen (Notam) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The extension comes as the previous&nbsp;restriction&nbsp;was due to expire on Aug 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPakistan airspace not available for Indian-registered aircraft and aircraft operated or leased by Indian airlines\/operators, including military flights,\u201d the&nbsp;Notam, issued early on Wednesday, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Notam, the extension took effect on Aug 23 at 10:15am and will remain in force until 4:59am on Sept 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The country\u2019s airspace is divided into two flight information regions (FIRs) \u2014 Karachi and Lahore, according to a Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA)&nbsp;document&nbsp;from 2022. The Notam applies to both the Karachi (OPKR) and Lahore (OPLR) FIRs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India and Pakistan&nbsp;closed their airspaces&nbsp;to each other\u2019s airlines in late April 2025, when tensions between them&nbsp;escalated&nbsp;in the wake of a&nbsp;deadly attack&nbsp;in Indian-occupied Kashmir\u2019s Pahalgam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On April 24, Pakistan\u2019s top brass had announced a&nbsp;series of measures, including the closure of its airspace to all India-owned or Indian-operated airlines with immediate effect, as it retaliated against New Delhi\u2019s slew of&nbsp;aggressive measures&nbsp;against the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since then, Pakistan has extended the ban several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New Delhi, without evidence, had alleged that Islamabad backed the attack; however, Pakistan had&nbsp;strongly denied&nbsp;any involvement and offered a&nbsp;neutral probe.
