{"id":130607,"date":"2026-08-03T10:08:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T05:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=130607"},"modified":"2026-08-03T10:08:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T05:08:13","slug":"move-to-create-over-100-new-additional-assistant-commissioner-posts-in-punjab-opposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/130607\/","title":{"rendered":"Move to create over 100 new additional assistant commissioner posts in Punjab opposed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LAHORE(National Times)- The Provincial Manage\u00adment Service (PMS) officers\u2019 association has opposed the Punjab government\u2019s decision to create 101 Additional Assistant Commissioner (AAC) posts, calling it a \u201cmala fide move\u201d aimed at \u201cweakening\u201d the PMS cadre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The association said the AAC posts were abolished decades ago and their revival was \u201cunnecessary and unjustified\u201d, especially after the establishment of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The association\u2019s executive committee meeting chaired by president Qamar Zaman Qaisrani decided that an association delegation would meet the Punjab services secretary and the additional chief secretary to explain its concerns and demands on Monday (today). \u201cIf PMSA concerns are not addressed, it will launch the first phase of protest by wearing black armbands across the province from Tuesday (tomorrow).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The association said that creating new posts would place an additional burden on the national exchequer and be seen as a direct attempt to undermine the PMS service structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PMS officers announce protest, say decision \u2018undermines\u2019 their service structure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calculating the cost of an AAC and all 101 AACs, the association claims that one such officer would cost the government some Rs46.825 million and all 101 AACs some Rs4.729 billion at once, followed by monthly salaries and privileges. Besides salaries, the cost includes an official vehicle, supporting staff salaries, monthly budgets as well as an office building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The association also expressed serious concerns over alleged discrimination in postings and transfers, delays in promotion boards, and the appointment of junior officers to senior positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former administrative secretary Yawar Mehdi commented that the objective of creating AAC posts to improve public service delivery was commendable, provided these officers were empowered to deliver efficient, transparent, and citizen-centric services.
