{"id":130353,"date":"2026-07-30T11:20:01","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T06:20:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=130353"},"modified":"2026-07-30T11:20:02","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T06:20:02","slug":"at-least-8-killed-in-roof-collapse-in-lahores-harbanspura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/130353\/","title":{"rendered":"At least 8 killed in roof collapse in Lahore&#8217;s Harbanspura"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LAHORE(National Times)- At least eight people were killed when the roof of a house collapsed in Lahore\u2019s Harbanspura area late on Wednesday, according to authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) retired Capt Muhammad Ali Ijaz confirmed the death toll to&nbsp;<em>Dawn<\/em>, with a statement issued by his office on Thursday morning saying that he was supervising the rescue operation at the site of the incident, which was ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement added that Rescue 1122 teams, assisted by district administration officials, were clearing the debris and efforts were under way to recover people who were still trapped under the rubble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heavy machinery had also been deployed to speed up the operation, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the statement, the DC directed the relevant officials at the site to ensure the safe recovery of all those trapped under the debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It said that the DC had also ordered an inquiry to determine the cause of the roof collapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident comes a month after a roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore\u2019s Kahna area&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2012147\">claimed<\/a>&nbsp;the lives of 14 children. Police had registered a case against the tuition centre\u2019s owners and the building\u2019s contractor a day after the incident, with the first information report stating that the suspects were putting soil on the dilapidated building\u2019s roof, which collapsed because of the extra load.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a similar incident in early May, four children were killed and 20 people injured after the roof of a classroom at a private school in Dera Ghazi Khan&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1998375\"><u>collapsed.<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;A probe into the incident revealed that construction for an extension of the building was under way when the roof of the classroom collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the district administration\u2019s incident report, the roof was overloaded as sand and bricks were placed on it, and it could not bear the load and consequently collapsed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE(National Times)- At least eight people were killed when the roof of a house collapsed in Lahore\u2019s Harbanspura area late on Wednesday, according to authorities.
