Web desk(National Times)- The Foreign Office (FO) has condemned Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh\u2019s \u201chighly provocative and irresponsible comments\u201d regarding the Kashmir dispute, saying that the neighbouring country must not underestimate Pakistan\u2019s resolve to \u201cthwart any Indian adventurism\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sunday, Singh had stated that there would be \u201cno talks with Pakistan\u201d. According to the Times of India, he went on to say that if any took place, they would only be on Azad Jammu and Kashmir, claiming that it was \u201cillegally occupied by Pakistan\u201d. He also said that any \u201cmisadventure\u201d would invite a response \u201cbeyond their imagination\u201d, the publication said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The FO responded to the claims in a statement issued early on Monday, saying Pakistan condemned in the \u201cstrongest possible terms the highly provocative and irresponsible comments\u201d by the Indian minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHis statement not only distorts facts regarding the UN and internationally recognised Jammu and Kashmir dispute that remains on the agenda of the UN Security Council but also shows Indian government\u2019s deliberate policy to threaten regional and international peace and security,\u201d the FO said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSuch insinuations are an attempt to divert attention from India\u2019s continued occupation of Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, its sponsorship of terrorism across the region, as well as its domestic instability,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile resorting to its misplaced rhetoric of aggression and belligerence, India must not underestimate the people and government of Pakistan\u2019s unwavering resolve and determination to thwart any Indian adventurism as demonstrated by the entire Pakistani nation and its valiant armed forces during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos last year,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In May 2025, a four-day conflict between Pakistan and India was sparked by an attack on tourists in occupied Kashmir, which New Delhi, without evidence, linked with Pakistan. Islamabad strongly denied responsibility while calling for a neutral investigation. The two had traded tit-for-tat strikes before American intervention on May 10 led to a ceasefire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPakistan urges the international community, in particular the United Nations, to take note of India\u2019s continued rogue behaviour and to hold it accountable for its failure to uphold the relevant UN Security Council resolutions that guarantee the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,\u201d the FO statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that India\u2019s \u201ccontinued attempts to rewrite internationally recognised legal realities through coercive rhetoric cannot alter the facts\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referencing Singh\u2019s remarks, he said that such statements reflected a continued attempt to distort internationally recognised legal realities through political rhetoric and coercive posturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey neither alter the status of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir nor contribute to regional peace, stability or meaningful dialogue,\u201d the minister said in a post on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIndia\u2019s repeated attempts to malign Pakistan lack credibility in light of its own well-documented record of state-sponsored terrorism and criminal activities. In fact, India remains the biggest sponsor of terrorism and perpetrator of instability in South Asia, holding the region hostage to its aggressively revisionist designs,\u201d Asif said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEqually alarming is India\u2019s irresponsible rhetoric which risks lowering the threshold for interstate conflict in the region,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asif said that Pakistan remained committed to peace and dialogue but its resolve to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security \u201cis absolute and must never be tested\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDefence minister\u2019s rhetoric is an attempt to deflect the attention from internal turmoil and increasing unrest and discontent against Modi\u2019s autocratic and divisive style of governance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
