{"id":129598,"date":"2026-07-18T10:10:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T05:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=129598"},"modified":"2026-07-18T10:10:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T05:10:43","slug":"us-blames-canada-for-wildfire-smoke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/129598\/","title":{"rendered":"US blames Canada for wildfire smoke"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OTTAWA(National Times)- President Donald Trump on Friday blamed Canada for wildfire smoke spreading across the United States and said he would add the \u201cincalculable cost\u201d of dealing with the pollution to existing tariffs on Canadian goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heavy smoke from hundreds of Canadian fires&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2016038\">enveloped<\/a>&nbsp;a swathe of the US from the midwest to the northeast on Thursday and Friday, prompting warnings to residents to stay indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump, who has a combative relationship with Prime Minister Mark Carney, said he would be calling the Canadian leader to find out what he planned to do about the \u201ctotally unacceptable\u201d situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are holding Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their forests \u2026 and the United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air,\u201d he said in a Truth Social post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is Willful Negligence, and becoming a yearly occurrence, costing the United States Billions of Dollars, which cost of this pollution must, of necessity, be added to the TARIFFS Canada is currently paying.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shortly after taking office, Trump imposed tariffs on several key imports from Canada.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OTTAWA(National Times)- President Donald Trump on Friday blamed Canada for wildfire smoke spreading across the United States and said he would add the \u201cincalculable cost\u201d of dealing with the pollution to existing tariffs on Canadian goods.
