{"id":128338,"date":"2026-06-27T10:44:05","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T05:44:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=128338"},"modified":"2026-06-27T10:44:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T05:44:07","slug":"govt-keeps-petrol-diesel-prices-unchanged-till-further-orders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/128338\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt keeps petrol, diesel prices unchanged &#8217;till further orders&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Web desk(National Times)- The government on Friday kept petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices unchanged at Rs299.50 per litre and Rs311.47 per litre, respectively, \u201ctill further orders\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision was announced in a notification issued by the Petroleum Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2009236\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;a Rs74 reduction in petrol prices and a Rs67 cut in high-speed diesel (HSD) prices as the government passed on the benefit of declining international oil prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Petrol is mainly used in private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws and two-wheelers, and changes in its price affect the middle and lower-middle classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similarly, changes in diesel prices also impact the public at large, as it is mainly used in the heavy transport sector, power plants and large generators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the energy crunch from the US-Iran war due to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2008641\/what-happens-when-the-strait-of-hormuz-reopens\">Strait of Hormuz<\/a>&nbsp;blockade&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1978937\">hit the global markets<\/a>, the government began revising petroleum prices every week on Friday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first wartime revision on March 6, the government hiked petrol and diesel prices by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1979182\/govt-hikes-petrol-high-speed-diesel-prices-by-rs55-per-litre\">Rs55 per litre<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 a move slammed as an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1979399\">inflation bomb<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That raised the ex-depot HSD rate to Rs335.86 per litre and the ex-depot petrol price to Rs321.17 per litre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fuel prices reached their peak on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1987901\/govt-hikes-petrol-price-to-rs458-per-litre-hsd-price-to-rs520-per-litre\">April 3<\/a>&nbsp;when the government hiked the petrol price by Rs137.24 per litre and the HSD price by Rs184.49, taking them to Rs458.4 and Rs520.35 per litre, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amid backlash over the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1987962\">unprecedented hikes<\/a>, PM Shehbaz had brought the petrol price&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1988282\">down to Rs378<\/a>&nbsp;per litre&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1988408\">within 24 hours<\/a>&nbsp;by slashing the petroleum levy by Rs80 per litre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Web desk(National Times)- The government on Friday kept petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices unchanged at Rs299.50 per litre and Rs311.47 per litre, respectively, \u201ctill further orders\u201d.
