{"id":127797,"date":"2026-06-18T10:35:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T05:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=127797"},"modified":"2026-06-18T10:35:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T05:35:19","slug":"sc-to-hear-pleas-on-imrans-access-to-lawyers-family-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/127797\/","title":{"rendered":"SC to hear pleas on Imran\u2019s access to lawyers, family today"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISLAMABAD(National Times)- The Sup\u00adreme Court will begin hearing on Thursday a set of petitions concerning acc\u00adess to PTI founder Imran Khan by his legal team, personal physicians and family members while he remains incarcerated at Adiala jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Muh\u00adammad Ali Mazhar, and comprising Justice Mus\u00adarrat Hilali and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, will take up petitions filed by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and Dr Uzma Khan, the former prime minister\u2019s sister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Raja has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1955926\">challenged<\/a>&nbsp;the Oct 23, 2025 Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision dismissing his contempt petition seeking enforcement of court directions regarding meetings between Imran and his lawyers at Adiala jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bench will also hear Dr Uzma\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1999497\">appeal&nbsp;<\/a>against an IHC ruling that declined requests to shift Imran to Shifa International Hospital, allow access to his personal physicians, family members and counsel, and provide medical information to relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Filed through senior counsel Uzair Karamat Bhandari, Dr Uzma\u2019s petition argues that although she was not a party before the IHC, she is directly affected by the judgment and therefore has the legal standing to challenge it. The petition cites SC precedent recognising the right of aggrieved persons to appeal orders adversely affecting them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hearing follows an assurance reportedly given by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to Raja on May 20 that petitions concerning Imran\u2019s access to doctors, family members and lawyers would be fixed soon after Eidul Azha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to informed sources, the contempt petition was listed in accordance with the SC\u2019s case-fixation policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his appeal under Article 185 of the Constitution, Raja contends that the IHC relied solely on the oral assurances of the jail superintendent regarding compliance with earlier court directions. Dr Uzma\u2019s petition stat\u00ad\u00ades that she is Imran\u2019s closest relative in the country and, as a medical doctor, is deeply concerned about his well-being.
