{"id":127665,"date":"2026-06-15T21:49:05","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T16:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=127665"},"modified":"2026-06-15T21:49:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T16:49:07","slug":"imran-taken-to-pims-for-follow-up-treatment-undergoes-fifth-eye-procedure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/127665\/","title":{"rendered":"Imran taken to Pims for follow-up treatment, undergoes fifth eye procedure"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISLAMABAD(National Times)- Former prime minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since 2023, was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad for eye treatment on Monday, the hospital said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement said the PTI founder was brought to the hospital for follow-up eye treatment, which included the administration of a fifth anti-VEGF intravitreal injection to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPrior to the procedure, he was examined by the ophthalmologists and was found to be clinically stable. His optical coherence tomography was performed, which showed clinical improvement,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It said that after \u201cobtaining informed consent and under standard monitoring, adopting all standard precautionary measures and protocols in the operating theatre, he was injected with a fifth dose of intravitreal injection under the guidance of microscopy by the surgeons\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDuring the course of his stay, he remained vitally stable before, during and after the procedure and was discharged along with instructions for further care and follow-up advice and documents,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imran last<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1984561\"><u>&nbsp;underwent&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>the anti-VEGF intravitreal injection on April 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1972699\/imran-claims-only-15pc-vision-left-in-right-eye-sc-forms-medical-team-to-examine-pti-founder#:~:text=Diagnosis%20and%20treatment\"><u>eye ailment<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) \u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1969364\"><u>came to light<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in late January. His&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1969478#:~:text=Claims%20about%20treatment%20at%20Pims\"><u>first<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;medical procedure was carried out on January 24, followed by a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1975350\">&nbsp;second dose<\/a>&nbsp;on February 24 and a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1984561\">third dose<\/a>&nbsp;on March 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past few months, the government and the opposition have been engaged in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1974066\/govt-puts-onus-of-imrans-delayed-care-on-aleema\"><u>blame game<\/u><\/a>, with the latter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1974086\/ttap-leadership-reaches-sc-for-hearings-of-imrans-cases-alliance-insists-on-personal-physicians-access\"><u>accusing<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;the former of a lack of transparency in not ensuring appropriate treatment for Imran, and not allowing his personal physicians access to him. The government denies these allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposition has also demanded that the former premier be shifted to Shifa International Hospital, be treated in the presence of his personal physicians and allowed to meet his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After Pims\u2019 statement today, the PTI expressed concern regarding Imran\u2019s health, saying that his multiple visits to the hospital raised \u201cserious questions\u201d about his health and concerns pertaining to transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secrecy about his health condition and providing partial information in this regard was unacceptable, the party said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe party makes it clear that in such a situation, complete transparency and immediate sharing of information is the government\u2019s and the relevant department\u2019s responsibility,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The party reiterated its demand for shifting Imran to Shifa International Hospital, treating him in the presence of his personal physicians and allowing him to meet his family.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD(National Times)- Former prime minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since 2023, was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad for eye treatment on Monday, the hospital said in a statement.
