{"id":126679,"date":"2026-05-30T18:40:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T13:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=126679"},"modified":"2026-05-30T18:40:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T13:40:18","slug":"myanmar-president-arrives-in-india-to-strengthen-ties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/126679\/","title":{"rendered":"Myanmar president arrives in India to strengthen ties"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DELHI(National Times)-  Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing arrived in India on Saturday, in his first trip abroad since becoming civilian leader, for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former military chief will also hold talks with business representatives during his five-day visit, according to both governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA warm welcome,\u201d India\u2019s foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement, posting pictures on social media of Min Aung Hlaing walking down a red carpet in India\u2019s eastern Bihar state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Min Aung Hlaing will start his trip with a visit to the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Bodh Gaya \u2014where believers say that the Buddha attained enlightenment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHis visit reflects the strong spiritual, historical and people-to-people ties that bind our two countries and the depth of our ongoing cooperation,\u201d Jaiswal said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He will meet Prime Minister Modi and President Droupadi Murmu on Monday in New Delhi, India\u2019s foreign ministry said, before travelling to the financial hub Mumbai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBoth leaders will discuss how to strengthen ties further,\u201d Jaiswal told reporters in New Delhi on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is also an important business component of the visit as to how two countries can strengthen their economic ties as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bilateral trade was $1.95 billion in 2025-2026, according to New Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Min Aung Hlaing was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1988355\">&nbsp;sworn<\/a>&nbsp;in as Myanmar\u2019s president in April, continuing his rule from a civilian post five years after snatching power in a military coup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His swearing-in ceremony was attended by representatives from the neighbouring nations of China, India and Thailand as well as 20 other countries, according to parliamentary officials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DELHI(National Times)- Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing arrived in India on Saturday, in his first trip abroad since becoming civilian leader, for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
