{"id":126232,"date":"2026-05-20T11:58:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T06:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=126232"},"modified":"2026-05-20T11:58:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T06:58:21","slug":"ppp-leaders-say-premature-to-comment-on-28th-amendment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/126232\/","title":{"rendered":"PPP leaders say \u2018premature\u2019 to comment on 28th Amendment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISLAMABAD(National Times)- Amid reports about a possible new constitutional amen\u00addment that could roll back certain functions de\u00ad\u00advol\u00adv\u00ad\u00aded to the provinces, a PPP senator on Tuesday said the party had not received any draft of the purported 28th Amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing a press conference to share details of President Asif Ali Zard\u00ad\u00adari\u2019s China<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1996835\">&nbsp;visit<\/a>, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla said it was \u201cpremature\u201d to comment on the matter as they had yet to see a proposal for the amendment. His statement echoed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2000262\/govt-has-not-contacted-ppp-over-any-constitutional-amendment-bilawal\">similar remarks<\/a>&nbsp;by the PPP chairman, who said his party was not aware of any such development, nor did the prime minister approach President Zardari in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar had also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/2000722\">recently ruled out<\/a>&nbsp;any amendment being tabled without consultation with the ruling partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides Mr Mandvi\u00adwalla, the president\u2019s spokesperson Murtaza Solangi and Presidency Press Secretary Daniyal Gillani were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mandviwalla insists party yet to receive draft of constitutional tweaks<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking about the president\u2019s visit to China, they said the president&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1995670\">signed<\/a>&nbsp;five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and one agreement, spanning the defence, agriculture, healthcare, industrial cooperation and technology sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Describing the commissioning&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1996362\">ceremony<\/a>&nbsp;of the Pakistan Navy\u2019s first Ha\u00ad\u00adngor-class submarine in Sanya, Mr Solangi said its strategic significance was comparable to the Pakist\u00adan-China JF-17 Thu\u00ad\u00ad\u00adnder fighter aircraft project. He also highlighted the president\u2019s visit to Shao\u00adshan, the hometown of Chairman Mao Zedong in Hunan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senator Mandviwalla, meanwhile, rev\u00adealed a new cultural initiative aimed at promoting Pak\u00adistani films and television productions in China.
