Web desk(National Times)- Pakistani players and teams will be able to participate in multilateral events hosted by India but bilateral events \u200bremain off the table, India\u2019s sports ministry has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India \u200calso said the visa process for sportspersons and officials will be simplified, while office bearers of international sports governing bodies will be \u200bgranted multi-entry visas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith regard to international and multilateral events, \u200bin India or abroad, we are guided by the \u2060practices of international sports bodies and the interest of \u200bour own sportspersons,\u201d the ministry said in a memorandum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is \u200balso relevant to take into account India\u2019s emergence as a credible venue to host international sports events.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn so far as bilateral sports events in each other\u2019s country are concerned, Indian teams will not be \u2060participating in \u200bcompetitions in Pakistan. Nor will we \u200bpermit Pakistani teams to play in India,\u201d the ministry added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement comes as India is set to host the Commonwealth Games \u200bin 2030, while they have also bid for the \u200b2036 Olympics and the 2038 Asian Games in Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India and Pakistan engaged in \u200ca military \u2060conflict<\/a> last year, and the deterioration of ties reflected in sporting events as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although India were co-hosts of the Twenty20 World Cup<\/a> earlier this year, Pakistan played all their matches in Sri Lanka<\/a> \u2014 including \u200ba group \u2060game against India \u2014 as part of an arrangement<\/a> that the two sides agreed on after India refused to play the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the two sides met for the ICC Asia Cup last year \u2014 their first meeting since the military conflict in May 2025 \u2014 the Indian team refused<\/u><\/a> to shake hands with Pakistan\u2019s players at the toss and after the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav was said to have \u201cpoliticised\u201d India\u2019s win in the match by bringing up the Pahalgam attack in occupied Kashmir, saying the victory was \u201ca perfect gift\u201d for his nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There has also been a long freeze in bilateral cricket between the nuclear-armed neighbours, who have not played a full series since \u200b2012-13 and now \u200bmeet largely \u2060at neutral venues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
