TOKYO(National Times)- Japanese police arrested a man for allegedly incinerating his dead wife at the zoo where he worked, officials and local media said Friday, following the discovery of human remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police arrested Tatsuya Suzuki on Thursday evening on suspicion that he \u201ctransported the victim\u2019s body to a tourist facility\u201d in the northern island of Hokkaido and \u201cdestroyed it through incineration there,\u201d a local police official told AFP.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The victim, 33-year-old Yui Suzuki, was identified by local media as his wife. Police have not said how she died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While held in voluntary police questioning, Suzuki said he used his zoo\u2019s incinerator \u2014meant to dispose of waste and dead animals \u2014to burn the woman\u2019s body \u201cfor a few hours,\u201d local media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His confession sent police scouring the incinerator for her remains, whose partial discovery paved the way for Suzuki\u2019s arrest, local media said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While alive, the wife once told her relatives that her husband was threatening to \u201cburn you until no trace of you will be left\u201d, public broadcaster NHK<\/em> said, citing investigative sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The gruesome case forced the Asahiyama Zoo, a popular tourist attraction closed since early last month as part of regular maintenance ahead of the summer season, to delay its reopening scheduled for Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Friday, the zoo resumed business, with officials bowing to visitors and apologising for the trouble caused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe zoo is in an extremely difficult situation at the moment,\u201d Hirosuke Imazu, mayor of Asahikawa City, which operates the facility, said, according to NHK.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBut we would like to turn your support into our energy, and convey the beautiful lives of our animals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" TOKYO(National Times)- Japanese police arrested a man for allegedly incinerating his dead wife at the zoo where he worked, officials and local media said Friday, following the discovery of human remains.
