Web Desk(National Times)- TECH giant Microsoft has removed misleading Israeli designations used in the\u00a0occupied West Bank\u00a0<\/a>and included Palestinian geographical names in its digital maps in accordance with international law,\u00a0Anadolu<\/em><\/a>\u00a0Agency reported quoting an Arab rights organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media (7amleh<\/a>) said the changes included location-based services, including the search engine \u2018Bing\u2019, where labels that previously listed locations in the West Bank under \u2018Judea and Samaria, Israel\u2019 were replaced with the term \u2018West Bank\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Judea and Samaria\u2019 is an Israeli term to designate the occupied West Bank, which is in contrast to international law that dictates that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, must be recognised as a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel. The West Bank is a key component of the future Palestinian state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The changes represent a \u201cnecessary correction,\u201d said Lama Nazeeh, 7amleh\u2019s advocacy manager, calling on technology companies to comply with international law and not contribute to the \u201cdigital erasure of Palestinian geography\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
