{"id":124519,"date":"2026-04-21T19:27:05","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T14:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/?p=124519"},"modified":"2026-04-21T19:27:05","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T14:27:05","slug":"pakistan-receives-1bn-from-saudi-arabia-as-second-tranche-of-3bn-deposit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationaltimes.pk\/eng\/2026\/124519\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan receives $1bn from Saudi Arabia as second tranche of $3bn deposit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KARACHI(National Times)- The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) confirmed on Tuesday that Pakistan has received $1 billion from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cState Bank of Pakistan has received funds of US$1 billion from Ministry of Finance, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the value date of 20April2026.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The central bank said this is the second tranche of the $3bn deposit recently agreed by Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1992225\">first tranche<\/a>&nbsp;of $2bn was transferred last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development came following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1992135\/pakistan-ramps-up-shuttle-diplomacy-with-pm-in-saudi-arabia-cdf-in-tehran\"><u>visit<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to Saudi Arabia to push diplomatic efforts to promote peace in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Friday, the kingdom&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1992553\">pledged<\/a>&nbsp;an additional $3bn in deposits for Pakistan and extended its existing $5bn facility for a further three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pakistan will reportedly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1988321\"><u>return<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;a $3.5bn loan to the UAE this month, putting pressure on its reserves and risking breaches of its International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development comes at a sensitive time for the country\u2019s external account position, which is already under strain from rising global oil prices and economic spillovers linked to tensions in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to official figures, Pakistan\u2019s foreign exchange reserves stood at $16.4bn as of March 27, sufficient to cover close to three months of imports.
