ISLAMABAD(National Times)- Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said the Afghan Taliban is \u201ctotally aligned with terrorists\u201d and fully backing militant groups targeting Pakistan. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar highlighted recent security incidents and reiterated Islamabad\u2019s position that Afghan soil is being used to plan and support attacks inside Pakistan. The minister pointed to two recent attacks in the federal capital, including one on a Shia mosque and another at the district courts. He also referred to the martyrdom of Lt Colonel Gulfaraz Ahmad, describing the incidents as part of a continuing security challenge. \u201cWe recently saw two attacks in the capital. An attack was carried out at a Shia mosque, an imambargah; an attack was carried out at the district courts,\u201d Tarar told reporters. He said the issue extended beyond the use of Afghan territory by militant elements, stating that the Afghan Taliban leadership stands fully aligned with groups involved in violence against Pakistan. \u201cAfghan soil is not just being used for terror attacks inside Pakistan, but the Afghan Taliban regime is totally aligned with terrorists and fully backing terrorists,\u201d the minister said. Tarar stated that the connection between militant networks and the Taliban authorities has become unmistakable, noting that Pakistan has repeatedly highlighted the pattern of suicide and terrorist attacks traced back to elements operating from across the border. \u201cThe nexus between terrorists and the Afghan Taliban regime has become as clear as daylight,\u201d he said. The information minister added that militants involved in attacks inside Pakistan receive training and facilitation in Afghanistan before entering Pakistani territory. He said these elements continue to target civilians as well as members of the country\u2019s security forces. \u201cAfghanistan is resorting to the training of these terrorists and facilitation of all kinds to these terrorists who come into Pakistan and kill innocent civilians, our security personnel,\u201d Tarar said. In his remarks, Tarar also described the Afghan Taliban government as \u201cillegitimate\u201d, stating that it lacks public backing and has deprived citizens of their basic rights.
