Hunza(National Times)- A severe cold wave continues to grip Pakistan with heavy snowfall in northern mountainous regions and icy winds sweeping across the plains. In Hunza, the mercury dropped to a freezing minus 21 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest area in the country. According to an international weather website, the minimum temperature in Hunza was recorded at -20\u00b0C, while Quetta saw a low of -1\u00b0C early Sunday morning. Other major cities also experienced chilly conditions, with temperatures recorded at 2\u00b0C in Islamabad, 3\u00b0C in Lahore, 4\u00b0C in Peshawar, and 7\u00b0C in Karachi. Snowfall over Babusar Top, Nanga Parbat, and other northern areas has intensified the cold and disrupted road connectivity. Temperatures plunged to -21\u00b0C in Hunza, -19\u00b0C in Astore, -11\u00b0C in Chilas, and -8\u00b0C in Kalat. Meanwhile, dense fog and freezing cold continued to disturb life in Punjab, with closure of motorways. Due to reduced visibility, vehicles were prohibited from entering the M2 Motorway from Lahore to Kot Momin, M3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, and M4 from Pindi Bhattian to Multan. Similarly, vehicles are not allowed to enter M5 Multan to Rohri and M11 Lahore to Sambrial. There are also fog-hit areas on the national highway in Lahore, Manga Mandi, Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, and Ahmedpur Sharqia.
