KARACHI(National Times)- Renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani has stated that Pakistan faces numerous challenges, and a constitutional struggle is the only way to implement Sharia law. Speaking at an event in Karachi, he emphasized that scholars should be appointed in the Federal Shariat Court according to constitutional requirements. He welcomed the amendment in the 26th constitutional amendment regarding interest (riba) and praised efforts by Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman in this regard. However, he criticised reports suggesting banks are being exempted from the amendment, arguing that the constitutional requirement to eliminate interest is being undermined. Mufti Taqi Usmani also criticized the Transgender Act, suggesting its imposition could open doors to moral corruption, and called for scholars to state their position. He highlighted ongoing issues, including terrorism, strained Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, and unresolved matters concerning religious seminaries.
