DHAKA(National times)- The health condition of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia has deteriorated to a critical level, and she has been placed on a ventilator at Dhaka\u2019s Evercare Hospital due to severe medical complications. According to the medical board overseeing her treatment, her kidneys have completely failed and she now requires regular dialysis, while several other health issues continue to worsen rapidly. Professor Dr Shahabuddin, a member of the medical board, said Khaleda Zia has been suffering from acute breathing difficulties, low oxygen levels in the blood, and rising carbon dioxide levels. She had been on high-flow nasal cannula and BiPAP support, but persistent instability prompted doctors to shift her to an elective ventilator to allow her lungs and other vital organs to rest. Doctors confirmed that she was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis on November 27, a condition that still requires intensive care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to a severe infection, she is being administered strong antibiotics and antifungal medications. In addition, gastrointestinal bleeding and DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation) have necessitated continuous transfusion of blood and blood components. Medical experts further reported that an echocardiogram indicated complications in her aortic valve, following which a TEE (Transesophageal Echocardiography) test was conducted. The test confirmed an infection, and treatment has been initiated immediately in accordance with international protocols, with both local and foreign specialists being consulted. The medical board has appealed to the public to refrain from spreading rumors about Khaleda Zia\u2019s health, stressing that her condition is extremely critical and that a joint team of national and international doctors is reviewing her treatment on a daily basis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
