KARACHI(National times)- At least 595 people, including 466 women, have been killed across Sindh over the past four years under the pretext of karo-kari \u2014 the local term used for so-called honour killings, according to official police records. The report reveals a disturbing pattern of violence, showing that women remain the primary victims of these brutal acts. In the last four years, 466 women and 129 men lost their lives after being labelled \u201ckari\u201d or \u201ckaro.\u201d According to Sindh Police data, 2022 saw 114 killings in 102 incidents, including 89 women and 25 men. The number climbed in 2023, when 167 people, 135 women and 32 men, were murdered in 151 incidents. In 2024, authorities recorded 152 killings in 132 karo-kari cases, with 123 women and 29 men among the victims. During the first ten months of 2025 (up to October), 162 people \u2014 including 119 women and 43 men \u2014 were killed in 140 such cases across the province. The data also highlights the alarming fact that in many cases, close relatives were responsible for the killings. Out of the suspects, 294 were immediate family members \u2014 including 171 husbands, 33 fathers, 77 brothers, as well as mothers, sons, daughters, and sisters of the victims. Another 204 suspects were extended relatives, while 16 were neighbours, friends, or acquaintances.
