Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad presided over the hearing, during which legal representatives for the federal government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) opposed the petition. They argued that Senator Chaudhry was sentenced to 10 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court in connection with the May 9 cases, after which the ECP issued a disqualification notification in accordance with the law. On the other hand, Chaudhry\u2019s counsel contended that his client was not given a chance to be heard before being disqualified, and that no member of the Senate should be declared ineligible without due process.
