RAWALPINDI(National Times)- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan on Tuesday claimed that the life of the incarcerated former premier was in danger and announced that the matter would be taken to the Supreme Court. Speaking to media persons outside the Anti-Terrorism Court, Aleema said her brother and nephew were being held in “unlawful” detention. \u201cOur brother and nephew are being held in unlawful detention,\u201d she told reporters, adding, \u201cOur focus is on the release of innocent prisoners.\u201d Aleema alleged the PTI founder was being kept in solitary confinement and denied access to newspapers and television. \u201cNewspapers and TV have been cut off and he has been placed in solitary confinement,\u201d she said, accusing the jail authorities of violating basic rights. \u201cThe jail superintendent is lying \u2014 my brother does not lie,\u201d she claimed. She also alleged that Bushra Bibi was being targeted to exert pressure on Imran Khan. \u201cEfforts are being made to break the PTI founder by taking action against Bushra Bibi,\u201d Aleema said, while also accusing the Punjab chief minister of orchestrating the campaign. \u201cMaryam Nawaz has sent this superintendent to inflict injustice on the PTI founder.\u201d Recounting her brother\u2019s message, she said: \u201cThe founder of PTI says he will hold talks for the sake of the nation, not for a personal deal.\u201d She added, \u201cThe PTI founder has sent a strong message: end personal feuds and launch a movement.\u201d \u201cThe PTI founder is in a difficult situation; the party must speak up on it,\u201d she said. Aleema also called on the public to act: \u201cWe are all victims of inflation; now the public must come out themselves.\u201d She urged, \u201cPeople themselves must rise up against the system of oppression.\u201d Imran Khan has been behind bars since August 2023 after he was booked in multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism following his ouster from power in April 2022 via opposition’s no-trust motion.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 Following her meeting with her brother on Tuesday, Aleema conveyed Imran’s concerns: \u201cMy access to TV and newspapers has been cut off and human rights are being violated,\u201d she quoted Imran as saying.
