Pakistan (National Times)- KARACHI: With the coolness of the weather increasing in the port city, the temperature dropped to a single digits last night at Jinnah Terminal, meteorological data showed on Wednesday. As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a further slump was observed in the mercury level on Tuesday night, with the lowest temperature recorded at 9.1 degrees Celcius at Jinnah Terminal. Overall, Karachi’s night-time temperature was recorded 11.3°C at its lowest during the last 24 hours. The area-wise data of the Met Office suggested that the mercury dropped to 10°C in Gulistan-e-Johar, 12°C on Sharea Faisal, 12.5°C in Mauripur, and 12.2°C in Bin Qasim. As per PMD, the city’s average December temperature typically hovers around 13.4°C. Over the next 24 hours, Karachi is expected to remain dry and cool at night, with minimum temperatures possibly dipping as low as 10°C. Currently, the humidity level stands at 48%, with winds blowing from the northeast at a speed of 10km/h. The existing cold-wave in Sindh is likely to persist in Tharparkar, with the night-time temperature expected to drop as low as 2.C in the south-eastern parts of the province. Meanwhile, the mercury is expected to range between 6.C and 7.C in the upper and central Sindh.  Meanwhile, Quetta and its surrounding areas experience a severe cold spell. Today, the city recorded a minimum temperature of -4°C, while Kalat reached an even chillier -6°C. The weather is expected to remain clear but extremely cold across the provincial capital, northern areas, and several districts in Balochistan, with mountainous regions facing particularly harsh conditions. Residents of Quetta and nearby areas, including Kalat and Ziarat, are also grappling with low gas pressure, causing significant challenges for consumers amidst the freezing temperatures.
