Criminals becoming security guards, says Karachi’s top cop

Pakistan(National Times)- Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has raised serious concerns over criminals infiltrating the private security sector, warning that the issue has escalated to a national “concern”. Speaking at the inauguration of an advanced monitoring project with eight new security cameras around the Chinese Consulate, Odho called for stricter laws to address this alarming trend. Odho stated that the Home Department is planning new legislation to tighten regulations for private security companies, emphasising the importance of accountability. If security company owners fail to act responsibly in vetting guards, they could face criminal charges, he said. According to Odho, intelligence agencies including the Special Branch and Intelligence Bureau are already investigating these breaches. In a bid to enforce law and order, the Additional IG also noted that strict measures are being taken against illegal vehicle modifications, including tinted windows, fancy license plates, and the public display of firearms. Over the past week, nearly 6,000 traffic fines have been issued, 940 cases registered, and several vehicles seized as authorities crack down on non-compliance.
