Pakistan(National Times)- Sarah Ahmed, chairperson of the Child Protection Bureau and Member of Punjab Assembly, has stressed that all stakeholders, from Pakistan and across the world, must work together to end child exploitation. Ahmed’s comments came as she represented Pakistan at the first-ever Global Conference to End Child Exploitation in Colombia, a prestigious event aimed at addressing child protection issues worldwide. Organised by the Colombian government in collaboration with the Swedish government, UNICEF, and the World Health Organisation, the conference underscored the urgent need for unified global action against child exploitation. Chairperson Ahmed presented Pakistan’s stance and commitments on child protection, showcasing the country’s progress and future goals in safeguarding children. She emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts to combat issues such as child marriage, physical punishment, and exploitation, calling on global stakeholders to work together to protect vulnerable children everywhere. “This conference has been a tremendous honour for me, representing Pakistan and contributing to the global dialogue on ending child exploitation,” remarked Ahmed. “It is imperative that all stakeholders from Pakistan and across the world collaborate to eradicate the exploitation of children.” Colombian President Gustavo Petro inaugurated the high-profile event, attended by ministers from 143 countries. Participants discussed key areas such as enforcing child protection laws, enhancing child protection systems, and providing safe environments to secure the future of children globally. Chairperson Ahmed highlighted the Child Protection Bureau’s active role in preventive and response measures for children suffering from abuse. “Over the past year, the Bureau has rescued approximately 10,000 children facing exploitation, supporting their journey toward independence and well-being through targeted welfare programs.” Ahmed also expressed her gratitude to UNICEF for its support in facilitating Pakistan’s participation in the conference. “Effective measures are being taken in Pakistan to safeguard children’s rights and prevent exploitation, with significant progress being made,” she noted. “However, child exploitation remains a global issue requiring comprehensive international action.” Reflecting on her mission, she added: “My goal is to ensure that every child in Pakistan lives a safe, empowered, and free life. Enforcing child protection laws and providing secure environments are fundamental to guaranteeing a secure future for our children.”
