LHC suspends detention order of PTI leader Shehr Yar Riaz

RAWALPINDI (National Times) Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has suspended detention order of PTI leader Shehr Yar Riaz.

Shehr Yar Riaz had challenged orders of Deputy Commissioner (DC) in high court.

Malik Faisal Advocate appeared on behalf of Shehr Yar Riaz in the court during the hearing of petition Monday.

The counsel for the petitioner took the plea in the court that the detention orders of the petitioner are illegal and political victimization is being done in the guise of detention orders. The orders issued by the district management be cancelled.

The court while agreeing with the arguments of the counsel of the petitioner suspended detention order.

It is pertinent to mention here DC Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema has issued detention orders of 4 PTI leaders for 15 days on June 20. These PTI leaders were Shehr Yar Riaz, Col (Retd) Ajmal Sabir Raja, Chaudhry Amir Afzal, Malik Taimore and Masood Akbar.
According to orders issued under section 3(1) of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) 1960 , Shehr Yar Riaz, Col (Retd) Ajmal Sabir Raja, Chaudhry Amir Afzal, Malik Taimore and Masood Akbar are planning for holding illegal gathering and addressing them. This may create law and order situation and lead to cause damage to property. District intelligence committee too has endorsed these recommendations of police on June 20. Therefore, the detention of these persons under MPO has been declared necessary in this perspective. Due to these reasons these persons be kept detained in Adiala Jail for 15 days.
