Opposition leader in PA challenges Defamation law in LHC

LAHORE (National Times) Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly (PA) Ahmad Khan Bhachar has challenged Defamation bill in Lahore High Court (LHC).

Punjab government, chief secretary and others have been made respondents in the petition.

The petition said defamation law has been enacted in derogation of constitution. The defamation law is violation of the rights laid down in the constitution.

The petitioner requested the court to declare null and void the defamation law.

It is pertinent to mention here that on May 24, governor Punjab Sardar Salim Haider had shown possibility of returning the bill to assembly for further consultation and review. 45-
