No constitutional restriction on holding dual citizenship or residency in other country for becoming judge: Registrar IHC

ISLAMABAD (National Times): Registrar of Islamabad High Court (IHC) has given reply to the letter from Faisal Vawda stating that there is no restriction on holding dual citizenship or residency in other country in the constitution for becoming judge.

No information about dual citizenship is sought from a lawyer on the occasion of becoming judge of high court.
Holding dual nationality or residence in other country does not disqualify any one from becoming judge as per constitution.

Registrar office further said Justice Athar Minallah of Supreme Court (SC) in the proceedings of suo motu notice regarding letter from 6 judges of high court made it clear the matter of green card of Justice Babar Sattar has been discussed in Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) . SJC approved the appointment of Justice Babar Sattar after deliberation and consultation.

It has also been said in the reply that IHC does not maintain record of the discussions of SJC.
It was clarified in the press release of high court Justice Babar Sattar had told the then chief justice he holds green card.

It is pertinent to mention here senator Faisal Vawda had requested information regarding Justice Babar Sattar’s green card status before his appointment.
