17 dead, 50 injured as truck of pilgrims plunges into ravine in Hub

HUB (National Times) At least 17 people were dead and over 50 injured after a truck carrying pilgrims fell into a ravine in Hub, the fourth largest city in Balochistan, on Wednesday.

Sources said the pilgrims, who hailed from Sindh’s Thatta, were going to Shah Noorani shrine to pay their respects when their vehicle met the mishap.

Police and locals are making efforts to rescue those who are trapped in the ravine while rescue teams are shifting injured and bodies to hospitals.

Sources said zaireen with critical condition will be shifted to hospitals in Karachi for treatment.

Hub DPO says the tragic accident was the outcome of reckless driving. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has issued directives for providing the injured with best medical facilities.

He expressed condolence with the bereaved families. An emergency has been imposed on Jam Qadir Hospital for ensuring timely treatment to those injured in the accident.

Edhi officials said that 30 ambulances have been sent towards the place of the accident.

Following the ill-fated incident, rescue teams rushed to the scene to assist the victims.

The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, while the deceased were transferred for identification purposes.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed deep regret over the unfortunate incident, extending heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the grieving families.

He offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured, emphasising his profound sadness at the loss of life in the tragic accident.
