PM Imran orders inquiry into Murree tragedy

ISLAMABAD (National Times) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday ordered inquiry and putting in place strong regulation to ensure prevention of such tragedies.

PM Imran Khan, in a tweet, said that he was shocked and upset at tragic deaths of tourists on road to Murree.

The premier added that unprecedented snowfall and rush of people proceeding without checking weather conditions caught district administration unprepared.

It merits mention that over 20 people died in Murree and other northern areas due to heavy snowfall.

Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday confirmed the deaths after the snowstorm.

Local administration has also launched operation to rescue the stranded tourists; however, teams are facing difficulties due disruption in mobile service and electricity supply.

On the other hand, administration of Rawalpindi and Islamabad has closed the roads going to Murree and Galiyat due to large number of vehicles entering the hill station owing to heaving snowfall.
